OMG.. I woke up at 12 noon today. Darn!

Spotted in WikiHow.

Everyone has somewhere to be at a certain time. And eventually, you will wake up late. Read on to learn some important tips of making it to your job/class on time!

Steps

  1. Figure out how much time you have. This takes some math skills. If you woke up late at 6:40 and you need to be out of the house by 7:00, then you have 20 minutes. If you usually wake up at 6:00, then you’ve lost 40 minutes of getting-ready time.

  2. Spend what little time you have doing things that matter. If it’s the summer time, and you sweat while you sleep, it would be best to take a shower. If you don’t eat lunch until late in the afternoon, you might want to eat breakfast. Weigh the things you have to do carefully.

  3. Hold your breath. Literally. Tell yourself that you are going to put on your pants, shirt, and shoes while holding your breath. Challenge yourself to finish the task before you take another breath. I know it sounds weird, but it actually works. While under pressure (like holding your breath) you tend to do things faster. Just pretend you’re underwater or something.

  4. Don’t do useless things. Eat a Pop-Tart instead of making pancakes and bacon. Don’t bother getting the newspaper. Don’t even bother checking your e-mail, for all that is good and holy.

Tips

  1. Don’t forget to feed your animals/children!

  2. Try to get enough sleep the night before. This can reduce the tendency to wake up late.

  3. Make sure your alarm is very loud. This may bother other people in the house, but at least it gets you up and out of bed.

  4. Place your alarm on the other side of the room. This will force you to actually get out of bed and turn it off.

  5. If you sleep like the proverbial log, setting several alarms which make ungodly noises at five minute increments may help.

  6. Getting out of bed is the hardest part. Once you do, half the battle is won.

  7. Don’t day “Crap!” or any other equally negative four-letter words upon the realization that you’re late. Say out loud, “It’s going to be a good day!” and it will have a greater chance of being one.

  8. If you are a chronic late riser, give yourself a boost by laying out your clothes and making your lunch the night before. That’s two things you can check off your mental to do list that rears its ugly head as soon as you snap awake.

  9. It sounds completely anal (and maybe it is) but make yourself a written schedule of what you have to accomplish each morning in order of importance. At least you won’t have to think when your brain’s still in Sleepy Town and your body’s attempting to reach Warp Speed. [haha.. so true]

  10. Also, don’t try to become a Nascar driver on the freeway in an attempt to make it to the office on time. Sometimes, speeding and evasive manuevers actually slow you down and create more stress.

Warnings

  1. These tips might not always work. If you wake up at 8:30 and you had to be at work by 7:30, you are pretty much screwed.

  2. Don’t pass out while holding your breath. 😛

  3. For the sake for your co-workers, please shower. Especially if you work in a cube farm.

  4. Also for the sake of your co-workers, don’t come in with a bad attitude because you were late…again. It’s not their fault that you didn’t hear the alarm. Morning crabiness as a result of lateness is a guaranteed to put a yucky stamp on your day!
