There’s no more bread to spread nor kicap masin to eat my ‘butter+ salty soy sauce rice’. Satiety feels incomplete without the taste of kicap masin on my fried eggs if I decide to make one. So, what’s the next food in line? Porridge.
In Malay, you call it ‘Bubur’.
As taught by one of the masters of culinary in this household, here is what Sifu Za said I should do;
2 or 3 cloves of garlic (not bulb)
ginger size of thumb (or as appropriate)
rice ( 2 or 3 small ‘pots/cups’ dependent on hungry level)
chicken cube or powdered stock
stuff to make it prettier – vegetables
1. Saute chopped garlic and ginger in a bit of oil. Once browned, add rice and water. The trick is water more than rice.
2. Put in chicken stock/cube to taste
3. Add the pretty stuff once the porridge is nearly cooked.
I put some crab meat instead of carrots/ brocolli since I’m too lazy to chop them up. Hehe.
Have fun trying this Desperate Student Porridge.
